Celebrating Gandhi Jayanti – Swach Bharat Abhiyaan
Today is Gandhi Jayanti! 2nd October is celebrated all around the world to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. Today we pay our reverence with a sense of gratitude to Gandhiji for imparting knowledge and shaping our beliefs towards building a culture of cleanliness.
Gandhiji was an avid practitioner of good habits. He strongly emphasized observing cleanliness and hygienic habits. He even said that ‘Sanitation is more important than independence’. He practiced healthy living in a lively environment.
Our organisation too celebrates Gandhi Jayanti differently! We visit our clients to initiate a collective cleaning drive. We like to work together since we believe in Gandhiji’s words that “hands that help are holier than lips that advice”.This year we joined hands with one of our clients, Western India Forgings Ltd. and initiated a cleanliness drive. In the factory at Sanaswadi, about 244 workers and 125 staff members pledged and participated in collective cleaning drive to make their surroundings Waste free.
Build a culture of Cleanliness
In fact, we are equally responsible for this garbage-filled society we live in. Personally we should see that in we do not spit, urinate or throw garbage in Public places. Let us pledge to educate people on the cause to continually clean our homes, offices and neighborhoods. This change will happen when each citizen takes ownership! Let’s join and support everybody, from today, if you see anyone littering around, stop them and ask them to use a bin. We must inculcate a culture of “Reduce-Reuse-Recycle”
o Reuse papers, Envelops, gift wraps etc. Start using things that can be recycled or you can reduce the use of waste generating items.
o Clean up junk files, clear the cluttered desktop and remove old, useless files from Computers, Stores and from each and every corner of your home and do not forget to dispose them properly.
o As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility Organisations must include sanitation and toilet construction for girls and women.
When everybody joins hands together the results would be far better.
Be the change that you wish to see in the world!
Our newly elected Honorable Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi has pledged a much needed initiative, “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan” to clean and reform the country. Clean India Campaign is a mass movement to realise Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a clean India by 2019 and celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Today Mr Modi devoted his time along will Government official in collective cleaning. This is indeed a wonderful initiative by the Prime Minister. He also used the phrase ‘toilets before temples’ appealing people to build toilets and emphasize on sanitation and hygiene.
We are proud to have a leader who leads by example and doesn’t hesitate holding a broom and inspire people. The Clean India campaign will make a huge difference.
Lastly, as Gandhiji said, “the future depends on what we do in the present.” With each other’s support, we the people of India really CAN bring about good change.
