Report on Project Parivartan
– an initiative on social transformation through Gandhian Principles
Laxman Gole of Vedzen Institute did a Gandhi orientation program at Maher Ashram this Sunday, 30th January. The 200 children of Maher Ashram densely attended the program
Maher is a non-profit organisation, founded by Sr. Lucy Kurien in 1956. It is situated in Vadhu Budruk, a village in the Pune-district. This program was conducted as a part of Project Parivartan initiated by Rotary Club of Pune Central. The occasion being the Martyrs Day, GandhianThoughts and Philosophy was discussed in detail. A movie, “Bapu ne kaha tha” was shown to illustrate the principles of Gandhi and its simplicity of practice. This movie shows a kid and his take on Gandhi’s Satyagraha to fight back the land to its rightful owner. Awareness on Gandhian principles was accentuated by distributing books on his life to the children and staff of the ashram.
The purpose of the session was to inculcate the spirit of peace and communal harmony in the children’s mind as Gandhi had visualized amongst people from different walks of life. It is the need of the hour to lead our country towards progress. This is more relevant and necessary in today’s atmosphere where hatred, disharmony, violence and intolerance are spreading at an alarming rate and moral values are on a decline.
The program was attended by a number of foreign social workers, who are associated with Gandhian Philosophy and work to spread it across all regions. The children were excited with the opportunity of learning and appreciated Laxman’s oratory skills when he narrated true stories from Gandhi’s life.
